Solar Panels get winter blues......

This winter in the north east of the US my solar panel array has about 3 feet of snow on it.  This is not
the kind of snow you can broom off and a melting will not come soon.  In a normal winter snowfall here I just tarp the solar panels and when it stops, pull off the tarp.  This method works well with a couple of inches of snow but not with a couple of feet.  I mouted my panels on a pretty steep slope but they are not high enough above the roof deck to be out of the deep snow.  Some thought should be put into this when you are in the planning stage.......
